The True Meaning and Importance of Gratitude in Daily Living

Gratitude is the act of being grateful or showing appreciation for what you have received. The importance of gratitude cannot be overemphasised. You may have occasionally heard about gratitude, but you haven’t taken the time to understand its profound and true meaning. If you understand gratitude and its importance, I can assure you that your life will never remain the same. In this blog post,

I will help you understand what it is all about, its true and deep meaning, and why it is essential. Now, if you are ready to go with me, let’s dive in and learn!

1. Why is Gratitude Important in Daily Life?

There is a saying that if you give, you will have more. Ingratitude can block your ways of receiving good things in life and expose you to lack and emptiness. I believe you must have given someone a gift sometime in your life, and I also believe that this person must have appreciated you for it. Now, I want you to go back to memory lane and think about how it made you feel when this person was showering praises and blessings on you. How did that make you feel?

I believe it made you feel like a king. You were encouraged to do more for the person simply because of the way and manner in which they expressed their gratitude towards you. This is the same way it is with God; if you appreciate and show a hearty gratitude to God for what He has done for you, surely He will do more.

What you may not understand is how much praise can manipulate human beings, including even God Himself. People like it when you make them feel that they are kind-hearted and generous; it motivates them to do more. That is precisely how it is to God.

So, when you wake up every day, make sure to kneel and thank God Almighty for making it possible for you to sleep and wake up. Remember that many people could not wake up today from sleep, just like you did.

When you receive a gift or favour from someone, make sure to find a special way to show your appreciation and thank that person; it opens the door for more favour.

2. Gratitude Keeps Your Mind at Rest and Improves Your Overall Health.

Have you noticed that when you trivialise or ignore the act of showing appreciation and expressing gratitude to someone for what they have done for you, it brings discomfort and an unhappy mood, creates anxiety and even depression, and makes it difficult to discern the course of action?

It is because you owe the true and hearty expression to God and that particular person who might have gone out of his way to put a smile on your face. You may not notice this so often, but it happens anyway.

One of the significant benefits of gratitude is that it frees your heart, mind, and body. It’s similar to the feeling of freedom in your heart and body when you pay off your debt; you will enjoy the good health that comes with inner peace and a sense of certainty.

Your health will improve tremendously because you now have the inner joy and peace of mind. Therefore, make sure to embrace a daily gratitude practice, starting and practising it gradually until it becomes a part of you.

3. Gratitude can elevate you to unimaginable heights.

You can bear with me that gratitude goes hand in hand with humility. The truth about humility is that it is a virtue, and not everyone possesses it. Many people are naturally proud, and they say that pride goes before a fall. Wealthy individuals often prefer to work with those who demonstrate humility and express gratitude, because humans naturally like to be around someone who always flatters their ego.

They won’t mind showing you whatever they did to get to where they are today because they enjoy the way you worship and make them feel like kings. That is just one of the benefits of gratitude.

Living with gratitude every day will not only open doors to abundance for you but it will also promote good health conditions and lead to a long and fulfilling life. This is why I said that the importance of gratitude cannot be overemphasised; it has numerous physical and spiritual benefits.

5. How Can You Learn the Act of Gratitude?

Do you know that everything you have today can also be taken away from you with just a twinkle of an eye? You won’t tell me that if you look around you this minute, you won’t see a reason or some reasons to be thankful and appreciative of your life.

How about the roof over your head? How about the breath you take in and out? The only problem most people have is a lack of contempt. This brings me to the two significant ways in which you can learn the act of gratitude and even form it as a habit.

6. Be content with what you have

The problem with most people today is that they continue to believe life owes them a great deal. The bitter truth is that no one owes you anything, even God Himself. Also, remember that you came to this life empty-handed, and you will also leave it empty-handed.

This is why I keep emphasising the importance of gratitude, because when you learn to practice gratitude in daily life, you will surely come to realise that you own nothing in this life; everything you have, including your life, is a gift from God. You need to constantly show hearty gratitude for it so that you will continue to receive more blessings from God and man.

7. Lower Your Expectations

When I say lower your expectations, I didn’t mean that you should not aim higher in life. Yes, you should aim to grow, but while you do, also remember that neither God nor humanity owe you anything. Work hard and pay your dues while you aim high. But most importantly, always bear in mind that gratitude can open doors for you to achieve whatever you want.

Work and also wait for whatever the universe has in store for you to come on its own time. Always give thanks for the one you have already and avoid too much expectation, because too much expectation will put you under pressure, depression and anxiety.

Summary

We should all learn and understand the importance of gratitude, as it opens doors to opportunities and abundance, facilitating the healing of both body and soul. Always practice gratitude, even when you are in pain and it seems like you have nothing to be grateful for.

Be grateful for the life you have. Be grateful that you are still able to read this blog post and learn to improve the quality of your life. Remember that some people are currently struggling with illnesses that prevent them from reading and writing, but you can read and write. Just be grateful for this, and other blessings and opportunities will follow.
